May 20, 2020

Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett joins the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Storyline Online cast of readers this month, bringing to life the true story of Grammy-nominated New Orleans musician Troy Andrews in Trombone Shorty, a new read-aloud for the Emmy-nominated children’s literacy program.

Written by Trombone Shorty himself, and illustrated by Corretta Scott King Illustrator Award winner Bryan Collier, this vibrant 2016 Caldecott Honor book, published by Abrams Books for Young Readers, is an invigorating tale of music, cuisine, culture and family.

Featuring original music compositions written and performed by Shorty and the band and used courtesy of The Universal Music Group and Round Hill Music, Trombone Shorty is a journey of ambition, determination and talent, weaving together a multilayered experience for young readers, and exploring not just Andrews’ story, but the musical heritage and traditional foods of New Orleans.

Take ten minutes and check it out, or send the link to a kid, teacher or parent who could use a good book in these tough times. #InItTogether #StaySafe
