Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's prestigious closing set at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will be broadcast on AXS TV. AXS TV's live coverage will begin May 3, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. EDT with programming continuing through May 5. This is the first ever live TV broadcast of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and it will also feature other major artists including Billy Joel, John Mayer, Willie Nelson & Family, Widespread Panic, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Phoenix, Gary Clark Jr., Cowboy Mouth and Galactic. The live coverage will also feature on-the-scene and backstage reports from around the festival with Savannah Jane Buffett, daughter of Jimmy Buffet, reporting. The Trombone Shorty Foundation will host its first annual "Shorty Fest" Fundraising concert May 2, 2013 at Generations Hall in New Orleans. In addition to Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, the event will feature performances from The Hot 8 Brass Band, Cha Wa, the Trombone Shorty Academy Band and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, which is currently partnering with Tulane University to mentor twenty-six high school musicians to help them prepare for a career in music. Trombone Shorty has also been honored by The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and The New Orleans Post Office with their 2013 Commemorative Souvenir Envelope. Trombone Shorty is featured on KING's (Joe King of The Fray) new single, "Need A Woman By Friday". The track was released in March and the official video (also featuring Shorty) is now available. The video, which premiered exclusively on VH1.com, features KING, Shorty, and other musicians and revelers second-lining down the streets of New Orleans. KING stated to VH1 about their collaboration, "you usually don't hear a trombone on pop records because its sound can sometimes dominate a track...But in working with ...Troy... the instrument added a unique and distinguishable element to the song."

In the coming months watch for Shorty on releases from Robert Randolph & The Family Band as well as Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk. Randolph's upcoming release (also featuring Carlos Santana) is noted as being a return to the joyful, high energy music that has become his trademark. A lifelong friend of Ivan Neville's, Shorty collaborated on Dumpstaphunk's upcoming album, Dirty Word. The album also features Flea and Ani DiFranco in addition to Shorty, and is set for release in June 2013.

This summer look out for Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's new album produced by Grammy-winning Raphael Saadiq. Recorded in both Los Angeles and New Orleans, the album will be Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's third album released via Verve/Universal. The band will embark on an international tour in support of the new album this year.

In addition to accomplishing the feat of performing at three of these events in one day, Friday, February 1st, Shorty was also featured twice on CBS the following day. One CBS story covered the Trombone Shorty Foundation's current partnership with Tulane to teach underserved youth in New Orleans ("Trombone Shorty" makes NOLA swing), while the other featured an interview with Trombone Shorty on the importance of New Orleans' unofficial anthem, "When The Saints Go Marching In" (The rich history of "When the Saints Go Marching In").

The Trombone Shorty Foundation has partnered with Tulane University to create an After School Academy to mentor aspiring, high school musicians in the New Orleans Area. The program, beginning in Spring 2013, aims to teach students the musical traditions of New Orleans as well as modern music styles including Andrews' own "SupaFunkRock". The program will feature direction from Trombone Shorty, Jazz pianist and Tulane Instructor, Jesse McBride, and Tulane students. "If we give other young musicians the opportunity, and they want it like Troy wanted it, we will have more successful young people," says Jesse McBride. The program also aims to teach the business know-how that will empower students to choose music as a career.

Andrews will take a hands-on role with the program's mentees, who will have opportunities to perform before large audiences once they achieve proficiency, said Bill Taylor, executive director of the Trombone Shorty Foundation. "He [Andrews] understands the value of receiving opportunity and how much of a game-changer it can be" said Taylor. It is the Foundation's hope that those opportunities will translate to a college education for the students, and although some who will join the academy may not currently aspire to attend college, organizers see bringing them into the campus community as the first step to changing their minds.
